Black screen after turning the TV back on (TV box / stick)

You turn the TV off with the remote, then turn it back on — and you see a black screen instead of the picture.
The picture appears only after you restart the TV box / stick (unplug power and plug it back in).

Why this happens
In most cases, this is caused by HDMI device control (also called HDMI-CEC).
The TV and the TV box exchange control commands (power on/off, input switching). Sometimes after the TV turns back on, the TV box doesn’t wake up correctly or the HDMI signal doesn’t restore properly — so you get a black screen.

✅ Solution
Disable HDMI-CEC on the TV box / stick (and if needed — on the TV as well).

!After disabling CEC, a convenient feature may stop working: the TV box remote may no longer turn the TV on/off. This is expected.

How to disable HDMI-CEC on the TV box / stick

➡️ Amazon Fire TV / Fire TV Stick

1. Open Settings
2. Go to Display & Sounds
3. Open HDMI-CEC Device Control
4. Set it to OFF

➡️ Google Chromecast (Google TV)

Usually the path is (Menu names may vary slightly depending on your Google TV version):
1. Settings
2. Display & Sound
3. HDMI-CEC
4. Turn HDMI control (CEC) off

➡️ Xiaomi (Mi Box / Mi TV Stick / Xiaomi Android TV)

Usually it is here:
1. Settings
2. Device Preferences
3. HDMI CEC / CEC / HDMI control
4. Turn CEC off
On some models, CEC may be located under “Inputs” or “Display”.

➡️ Any Android TV box (general)

Search in settings for:
- CEC
- HDMI CEC
- HDMI control
- Device control
Then disable this option.
